Marc Broussard

with The Gabe Dixon Band

and Josh Hoge

Thursday December 11th , 7:30 PM.

The son of Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist Ted Broussard, Marc grew up surrounded by the diverse musical panorama for which his home state is renowned. Music informed his life from the get-go, whether it was joining his dad onstage at various clubs or singing in the Catholic University church choir. As he hit his teens, Broussard was already an accomplished artist, the veteran of a string of local bands and solo acoustic performances, known for tearing up the stage with the raw-throated gusto and worldly emotive power of a man three times his age. Broussard made his recorded debut in 2002 with the remarkably mature independent release, Momentary Setback. He drew coast-to-coast acclaim in 2004 with his major-label debut, Carencro, a full-blooded take on the blues, soul, Cajun music, rock, and swamp-pop of his native Louisiana. With his emotive and dynamic voice, Broussard quickly won over a legion of devoted fans via nearly non-stop roadwork, including countless headline shows; show-stopping sets at festivals like South By Southwest, Bonnaroo, and of course, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Now, Broussard is back in Knoxville after a successful Sundown in the City performance and ready to bring some Bayou Soul to the Bijou Theatre!.

Ralph’s World

Saturday December 13th, 3 PM.

These days, plenty of rockers make kid-friendly records. But there’s only one Ralph Covert, an irrepressibly enthusiastic performer who, in Ralph’s World, rocks just as hard for kids as he does for grown-ups. Formerly of the Chicago rock group The Bad Examples, Covert began writing songs for children shortly after the birth of his daughter. Around that time, he was also teaching young children in a music class that spanned traditional kids’ music and rock, ranging from “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” to “Ziggy Stardust.” Musically, Ralph’s World is similarly diverse, embracing high-energy folk, country, pop, and rock. Albums such as Peggy's Pie Parlor, Holly Jolly Ralph’s World and Green Gorilla, Monster & Me ensure a growing audience of the young and young at heart.
